Aufgaben:

  • mehrere „LED Moving Heads“ steuern

Voraussetzungen:

  • Interesse an Interaktion & Kommunikation

Bela Gipp: Enhancing CitePlag – a Web-based Plagiarism Detection System Employing Text and Citation Analysis

Problem
Today’s plagiarism detection systems can only identify copy&paste plagiarism, but not intelligently disguised forms of plagiarism, such as translated, paraphrased, and idea plagiarism. As a result, disguised plagiarism often remains undiscovered for years – remember K.-T. zu Guttenberg’s thesis.

SciPlore’s Research

To alleviate the shortcomings of currently available systems, the research team of SciPlore introduced a new detection approach: Citation-based Plagiarism Detection (CbPD).
In contrast to the existing approaches, CbPD not only examines textual similarity, that is the words occurring in a document, but makes use of the in-text citation patterns in scientific documents as a unique language independent fingerprint for similarity computation.
Our evaluations, e.g., using the plagiarized doctoral thesis of K.-T. zu Guttenberg, showed that citation patterns often show similarity even if texts have been translated or strongly paraphrased. CbPD thus allows for the detection of heavily disguised academic plagiarism that otherwise would not have been machine detectable using traditional approaches.
Together with HTW students, SciPlore developed CitePlag (www.citeplag.org) – the first plagiarism detection system to use the CbPD approach to detect disguised plagiarism.
Using CitePlag to analyze more than 180,000 articles in an Open Access collection of biomedical articles identified several instances of previously undiscovered plagiarism.

The Task
While CitePlag has already proved its value, we envision many enhancements to the prototype:

  • An API that can process Wikipedia articles and PDF documents

We would like to use the API to add additional collections (e.g., Wikipedia, or PDF documents from the Web) to CitePlag’s reference database. We would also like to integrate an automated spider for PDF documents on the web, which we developed for a previous project.

  • Availability of text-based detection methods for spidered documents

We would like to enable text-based detection using methods, such as Lucene, Encoplot, or Sherlock, for PDFs. This task also requires optimizing the upload, citation parsing and handling of large PDF documents.

  • Personal workspaces for users

We would like to enable users to create personal accounts in CitePlag, where they could upload their own documents, annotate documents they analyzed, and create summary reports of the findings.

We invite you to support us in realizing these enhancements as part of your bachelor project. You are also welcome to pursue your own ideas to improve CitePlag.

Qualifications
The following ideal list of qualifications is desirable for the team as a whole. Not every team member must know everything and not all skills are mandatory!

  • Web development skills (HTML, PHP, CSS, JS, JQuery)
  • Knowledge of relational databases and SQL, programming experience in JAVA or Python
  • A passion for usability and the design of clean user interfaces

Christian Becker / Debora Weber-Wulff: A Video Asset Management Module for SlideSync

MediaEvent Services is currently developing SlideSync, a self-service platform for streaming live presentations on the web. It is implemented in Ruby on Rails, jQuery and Bootstrap and hosted on Amazon Web Services. We’re based in Berlin and use agile development processes.
Within this bachelor project, you will work in a team of 4-6 students to develop a video asset management module for SlideSync. This will provide users with a modern, browser-based interface to upload, organize and preview video clips. It will also permit simple video edits, which are executed via server-side processing and/or external APIs.
The team should work together deliver the full module, consisting of a specification, backend and frontend logic, unit tests as well as end user documentation.

Requirements:

  • Previous programming experience.
  • An interest in web application development and/or media processing.
  • Eagerness to work on a real product that will go out to customers such as Lufthansa.
  • Our working language is English; meaning team meetings and all documentations will be done in English.
  • In order to work on this project, we require you to sign a contract outlining confidentiality and ownership of project results.
